Ismelia carinata (Schousb.) Sch. Bip., in Webb & Berthelot, Hist. Nat. Iles Canaries 3 (2,2): 271. 1844 Basionym : Chrysanthemum carinatum Schousb. Homotypic synonyms: Chrysanthemum carinatum Schousb.; Ismelia versicolor Cass., nom. illeg. The colorful daisy is an annual plant of the family Compositae (Asteraceae), rarely exceeds 30 cm, the leaves are divided and somewhat crass, the capitulum are large and multi-colored, the seed is an cypsela (achene-like) without pappus. Inhabits the sandy and sandy soils near the coast. It is a plant endemic to the Atlantic coasts of Morocco, doubtfully endemic in other places nearby such as the Canary Islands, widely cultivated in France and invading other countries in Europe and North America.
